Cindy Knapman is the communications leader for the University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program (Hawaiʻi Sea Grant). In this capacity she writes and edits communications materials such as press releases, articles, reports, brochures, and other publications, including the biannual magazine Ka Pili Kai. She also oversees the design, development, and maintenance of the Hawaiʻi Sea Grant website and an online tracking system which houses all Hawaiʻi Sea Grant alumni (students and employees), publications, projects, and grant proposals.
One of her favorite projects to date was the production of an interactive kiosk for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History Sant Ocean Hall. The kiosk, titled “The Ocean Shows us the Way,” focuses on traditional Marshallese navigation and is still playing on a rotating basis.
Cindy holds a master’s degree in marine affairs from the University of Rhode Island and has also completed graduate level courses in environmental management through the University of Hawai‘i Graduate Ocean Policy Certificate Program.
She moved to Hawaiʻi in 1991 and has been working with Hawaiʻi Sea Grant since 2005. In her free time, she paddles outrigger canoes, kayaks, and goes hiking.
