ABOUT PACIFIC ISLANDS COASTAL AND COMMUNITY HEALTH

2 rows of Hawaiian petroglyphs of fish touching tip to tail between wave borders on the top and bottom

Our team explores questions at the intersection of the health of coastal ecosystems and their communities. We aim to support communities in understanding how impacts to ocean resources can affect their own wellbeing, and this is often done through the lens of people eating fish. Situated within the University of Hawaiʻi, we strive to embody a Native Hawaiian Place of Learning and co-develop projects in collaboration with fishers and managers throughout the Pacific Islands. An important piece of this work is training future researchers from the Pacific to ensure local leadership for envisioning future solutions.
