For her PICH fellowship, Malia is supporting the Holomua Marine Initiative at the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) by collecting reef fish life history data with the NOAA Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) to guide fisheries management decisions. She is also working to build strong partnerships between fisheries agencies and local fishing communities to foster collaboration and increase community engagement in marine resource management.
