Address:

Matt Miller is a 2025 Grau Fellow with the Honolulu Office of Climate Change, Sustainability, and Resiliency (CCSR), working on the city’s Long Term Disaster Recovery Plan and the Hazard Mitigation Plan. He is excited to be a part of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant working in the CCSR office and hopes to use his experience researching severe and shifting weather in the tropics to help build a resilient Oʻahu, through planning and outreach measures. He’s also looking forward to forming resilience hubs across the island to strengthen local populations.

Matt grew up on the Jersey Shore, where living through Hurricane Sandy ignited his passion for studying the environment and extreme weather. Matt has a BS in applied physics from Stockton University and an MS in atmospheric science from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where his graduate research involved using global models to study severe storms, called kona lows, over the Hawaiian archipelago. He loved his time at university and also enjoyed studying different disciplines like oceanography, computer science, and ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi. Matt also served as the grievance chair for the graduate student union at UH Mānoa where he helped graduate workers feel physically and emotionally safe in their jobs.
