Dustin is serving as the Moku Resilience Stewardship Coordinator for the moku of Pūʻali Komohana on Maui, using his local experience to contribute to efforts on the Pili Nā Moku project. His goal is to utilize his education and devotion to the land to have a positive impact through habitat restoration work focused on Hawaiian ecosystems.
Dustin earned his BSc in NREM and a minor in botany from UH Mānoa in 2023, and is currently an NREM graduate student. He is an experienced environmental manager passionate about Hawaiian ecosystem restoration and conservation. His background includes extensive fieldwork and hands-on experience, having volunteered with organizations such as Kaʻehu, Kaiāulu Initiatives, and Kauluwehi. He has over a decade of expertise in working with Indigenous Hawaiian groups and continues to engage with ʻāina-based learning spaces and projects. His strong skills in botanical identification, landscaping architecture, biocultural restoration, and scientific research draw from the knowledge of his ancestors. He is also computer proficient and has experience using programs like ArcGIS and RStudio for data analysis from drone footage. He cares deeply about connecting people and conservation to preserve the environment for future generations.
