Brianna Law will spend her time as a 2025 Knauss Executive Fellow in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Division of Congressional and Legislative Affairs in Falls Church, VA. In this role, she will serve as a liaison for the FWS and Congress, working directly with congressional staff on committees and in personal offices of members of congress. Brianna will advise leadership on legislation, respond to inquiries, and foster relationships with congressional members to strengthen engagement and advance FWS’s mission to protect, conserve, and enhance wildlife and their habitats. Brianna is excited to deepen her understanding of natural resource conservation programs and the legislative process while strengthening connections between science and policy.

Brianna earned a Bachelor’s of Science in environmental science with a minor in marine biology from Nova Southeastern University in 2019. In 2022, she moved to Hawaiʻi to pursue her Master’s of Science in marine science at Hawaiʻi Pacific University. Her research focused on artificial lightning characteristics that contribute to groundings of a nocturnal Hawaiian seabird, the wedge-tailed shearwater (Uʻau Kani). She played a key role in developing a standardized protocol for measuring light pollution impacts on seabirds and providing valuable insights to inform managers and policymakers on lighting that benefits both wildlife and humans at night.

Brianna has also actively engaged in community education and conservation outreach. After earning her undergraduate degree, Brianna spent three years with New York State Parks promoting environmental stewardship. Through her graduate research, she had the opportunity to work for a nonprofit, Oikonos Ecosystem Knowledge, where she engaged in community outreach on seabird groundings in Oʻahu. Brianna is passionate about bridging the gap between science and policy and looks forward to applying the skills gained during her fellowship to drive impactful conservation policies.
