Jay Moorman is a 2021 Peter J. Rappa Fellow at the University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant College Program. He completed the Doctor of Architecture and Master of Landscape Architecture Programs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Jay has a strong connection to the ocean, and he is passionate about experiencing and preserving the coastal environment through design and community outreach. For his Master of Landscape Architecture Capstone Project, he considered channelized streams, with emphasis on resurrecting community and resiliency through stream channel restoration.
As a Rappa Fellow, Jay will develop a public engagement strategy for the Sea Grant Streamside Guide, a guidance for urban stream owners on recommended stewardship practices.
