For her time as a Rappa fellow, Kaleo is working on a project for building equitable partnerships with rural and indigenous communities. As part of this project, she is working with mentor Katy Hintzen on a data accountability and ownership agreement for Indigenous and local communities and academic researchers. In utilizing this agreement, researchers and community partners will have clear plans on how different forms of data, from Western scientific to Indigenous cultural knowledge, collected in research projects and partnerships will be shared and disseminated for the betterment of place-based research.
