Hawai‘i Annual Climate Report 2025

On behalf of the Hawaiʻi Climate Data Portal (HCDP) and Hawaiʻi Mesonet teams, we are excited to share our inaugural Annual Climate Report for the State of Hawaiʻi. Since launching the HCDP in March 2022, our team has worked diligently to develop a growing suite of climate data products and tools designed to support resource management, decision-making, education, and public awareness across the Hawaiian islands.

As you will see in this report, 2025 was Hawaiʻi’s sixth warmest year since 1990 and second driest year since 1920 statewide, with approximately 65% of the state classified as abnormally dry or worse by the end of the year. In addition, August 2025 was the driest August in the past 36 years. Do these statistics align with what you experienced over this year?

Of course, Hawaiʻi is home to many microclimates, and conditions can vary widely by island, watershed, and community. By understanding recent climate conditions and placing them in a broader historical context, we can better prepare for the changes that lie ahead and plan responsibly for the future.

We hope you find the information in this summary informative and useful, and we look forward to refining and expanding it in the years to come. If you would like to explore the data in more detail, we invite you to visit the interactive online version of this report (https://www.hawaii.edu/climate-data-portal/annual-report). You can also subscribe to receive monthly climate updates at the state, county, and watershed scales by entering your email at the following link (https://www.hawaii.edu/climate-data-portal/subscribe/). For more information, please see the final page of this report.

We remain committed to developing climate products that matter and to serving the community with information that can help to build a more resilient Hawaiʻi. We thank you for your support and welcome any feedback or ideas you may have.
