Mahealani Kaneshiro-Pineiro is the Outreach Specialist for the Hanauma Bay Education Program (HBEP), University of Hawai`i Sea Grant College Program. She coordinates HBEP’s Education and Community Outreach Program, which includes regularly scheduled on-site lectures, seminars and workshops designed to educate the public on current marine issues and research. As a HBEP team member, Mahealani’s work supports HBEP’s mission to present marine education programs to park users, schools, and community groups throughout Hawai`i.   

Kaneshiro-Pineiro earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in coastal resources management, an interdisciplinary degree in coastal and estuarine ecology, geosciences, social science and environmental policy, from East Carolina University. She has a Master of Science degree in zoology, with an emphasis on ecology, evolution, and conservation biology from the University of Hawai`i at Mānoa, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in marine science with a minor in biology from the University of Hawai`i at Hilo. She has worked for UH-Hilo Sea Grant Extension Service as an aquaculture assistant from 2001 to 2003, and a HBEP education assistant from 2003 to 2005. She was hired as the HBEP Outreach Specialist in 2014.
