Ka Pili Kai Winter 2007

The University of Hawai‘i Sea Grant College Program (UH Sea Grant) funds cutting edge research and then brings this knowledge directly to the community through a network of outreach and education specialists. Perhaps nowhere is this more apparent than the cadre of talented and creative aquaculture specialists who develop innovative solutions to pressing problems facing their community, and also provide hands-on training and education to undergraduate and graduate students to ensure the next generation is prepared to tackle the challenges that await.

In this issue of Ka Pili Kai, we will share some of the ways our aquaculture specialists are touching the lives of the people they serve. From the shores of Maui where Native Hawaiian families are taught how to produce fresh fish and vegetables in their backyard, to far-flung Pacific Islands where assistance is provided to pearl oyster and sponge farms, these dedicated individuals are improving the lives of residents of Hawai‘i and throughout the entire Pacific Region.
