Moku o Loe (Coconut Island) is a 28-acre island off Kaneohe Bay on the eastern side of the island of Oahu. Moku o Loe houses a marine research facility of the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) of the University of Hawaii. The vision of Coconut Island is to become a water, waste, and energy independent island. Therefore, the major goal of this study is to complete part of this work and design and develop a public water system that will supply the entire island over the present day and long term, while practicing sustainable engineering using available resources. There are also two other overarching goals that this study wil address which includes water quality and a modeling study.
