Mahealani Kaneshiro-Pineiro is the Outreach Specialist for the Hanauma Bay Education Program (HBEP), University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant College Program. She coordinates HBEP’s Education and Community Outreach Program, which includes regularly scheduled on-site lectures, seminars and workshops designed to educate the public on current marine issues and research. As a HBEP team member, Mahealani’s work supports HBEP’s mission to present marine education programs to park users, schools, and community groups throughout Hawaiʻi.

Kaneshiro-Pineiro earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in coastal resources management, an interdisciplinary degree in coastal and estuarine ecology, geosciences, social science and environmental policy, from East Carolina University. She has a Master of Science degree in zoology, with an emphasis on ecology, evolution, and conservation biology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in marine science with a minor in biology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. She has worked for UH-Hilo Sea Grant Extension Service as an aquaculture assistant from 2001 to 2003, and a HBEP education assistant from 2003 to 2005. She was hired as the HBEP Outreach Specialist in 2014.
