Shellie Habel is a PhD student studying Coastal Geology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her PhD research involves simulating components of flooding induced by sea-level rise and high tides, with particular focus on the Honolulu area. Her other interests include coastal geomorphology and geologic indicators of paleo sea-level. Shellie is very honored to be a 2017 Rappa Fellow. As part of the fellowship, she and her fellow Rappa Fellow, Maggie Calmes, are working to compile a compendium of adaptation planning techniques toward preparing for future changes in climate and sea level. By compiling this compendium, she and Maggie hope to inspire innovative projects among the Hawaiian Islands based on proven success in other parts of the world.
